PCRD Concludes the “Critical Thinking” Project

The Palestinian Center for Research and Cultural Dialogue- PCRD concluded on Saturday November 12, the “Critical Thinking” project in a ceremony that was held at the Palestine Red Crescent Society Hall in Ramallah.

The ceremony was attended by Mr. Tharwat Zeid the General Director of Supervision and Educational Rehabilitation at the ministry of education and higher education, Mr. Richard Asbeck the Director and representative of the German Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSS), Dr. Walid Shomaly the Executive Director of the PCRD, and the teacher and superintendent trainees.

Speakers sustained the significance of the project and the Critical Thinking approach as a method that is different from the traditional method of teaching, and was applied during the specialized training sessions that were part of the project. On his part, Mr. Zeid sustained the significance of the status of teaching, learning and Critical Thinking and praised the role of the teacher ad an educator of youth and a source of information. Mr. Zeid asserted the necessity of implementing such projects, and pointed out to the fact that the ministry always seeks to extend cooperation with institutions that render services to the Palestinian society in general and to the education sector in particular. He also commended on the project despite difficulties and obstacles. Mr. Asbeck pointed out to the role of the PCRD in implementing the project and its role in upgrading the quality of teaching at schools. He hoped that the project has achieved desired results.

Dr. Shomaly on his part expressed satisfaction with the fact that the teacher trainees were intensely trained on Critical Thinking and they deserved to be rewarded. He also acknowledged the role of the HSS that was a pioneer in supporting such a project to be implemented for the first time in Palestine. Dr. Shomaly added that the project was a pilot one, and that the PCRD always sought new projects associated with thought and education. He also commended on the role and cooperation of the ministry of education and higher education in this regard. On his part, the superintendent trainee Mr. Imad Abdel Latif expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the project, and thanked the ministry for having him and his colleagues attend the training sessions of the said project. Finally, certificates were conferred to the trainees.
